Impact of ultra-endurance rowing on body composition and physiological function
The Department of Sport & Exercise Science at the University of Portsmouth will be providing Steph and Becky with sport science support during the build-up to the race and during the initial recovery period after the race. The majority of the support work will focus on assessment of aerobic fitness, using laboratory and field-based testing, and tracking of changes to body composition. Laboratory tests will be carried out periodically in the climatic chamber and exercise physiology laboratory at the University of Portsmouth. Regular field-based tests will be performed during Steph and Becky’s normal training sessions and special one-off sessions, and will utilise portable expired gas analysis and capillary blood sampling to enable assessment of the physiological demands.
