Making Waves is an all female British

2005 Atlantic Rowing Race.
Becky Thorpe and
Steph Temperton, doctors and experienced rowers, crossed the Atlantic as one of
26 crews taking part in the race. Their
boat ’Marion’ crossed the start line in the Canary Islands on 30th November 2005 to start their 2,931 mile voyage to the finish in Antigua, where they arrived on 14th February 2006. Their crossing time of around 71 days, 22 hours and 24 minutes, broke the British Womens Pairs Atlantic record.

The
event is the world’s toughest rowing race and one of sport’s great challenges - carrying everything required for more than two months on the open sea. The scale of the challenge is underlined by the fact that conquering the Atlantic in a small boat remains a feat achieved by fewer people than have climbed Mount Everest, and by just 29 women.

The challenge to row across the Atlantic also raised nearly £5000 for the
Steve Redgrave Trust, which supports young people, and was founded by the world’s greatest ever rower and Olympian.
