story of the Making Waves finish - thanks Chris!
14/03 - A late Christmas!
The Making Waves journey officially ended last night with a welcome home party in Henley. The crew had been at sea in the festive season, and so dinner was traditional Christmas turkey. Becky and Steph can now return to normal life!
20/03 - Race results and photos
The official race results have now been published. Due to the crew not crossing the race finish line they were disqualified from the race, along with several other boats. They did cross the line of longitude for an Atlantic crossing, and so their official time was 71 days, 22 hours and 24 minutes - a fantastic effort! Some photos from during the crossing have been added to the
photos page.
28/02 - Safely home
Steph and Becky have now arrived back in the UK from Antigua, and are now trying to adjust back to normal life! They have been amazed with the amount of support received and thank everyone who has so kindly sent messages and donated to their chosen charity. Pictures, and possibly videos will be posted here when they have been sorted!
15/02 - First photo from the finish
Taken with a mobile phone, so not great quality - but proof they are on dry land!
14/02 - The story of the finish
Making Waves have reached Antigua! After such a traumatic voyage it seems fitting that it should have such a dramatic ending! After battling against the elements (sound familiar?!) to make some miles southwards towards the official finishing line, the crew onboard Marion called the Race Officer for assistance yesterday evening. At approximately 11pm GMT Marion was taken under tow by the Antigua Search and Rescue team and taken to the nearest landfall - a harbour called Seatons on the north coast of Antigua - where family, friends and other ocean rowers were eagerly waiting to greet Becky and Steph back on to dry land. They arrived with just their clothes they were wearing and a lifejacket each. Their first requests: a shower and a fizzy drink! Although they haven't actually crossed the race finishing line they have officially rowed the Atlantic - their crossing time to be confirmed shortly. Amongst the
messages of congratulations already received is one from Sir Steve Redgrave, whose
charity the crew are supporting. More news, and hopefully photos, when available.
